The Book of Genesis

Wednesdays at 7:00 pm

“These are the generations of the heavens and the earth…” (Genesis 2:4)

Origins. When asking someone to explain his or her worldview, it is necessary to ask about human origins. Consumer media has produced an upsurge in origin stories, lending a sympathetic edge to well-known characters ranging from heroes to villains to anti-heroes in between. Both for good and for ill, countries are continually revisiting – and revising – the manner in which their histories are taught. Knowledge is handed and increased from generation to generation even while valuable wisdom is lost.

God has preserved his own view of history in the words of Holy Scripture. Genesis is a book of origins – not only for a certain people, but for all people of all times. The Christian Church did not begin with Jesus Christ, the Apostles, or the Church Fathers. It began with a man named Israel and his fathers before him. Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church will be tracing her origins and family history this year through the Book of Genesis with a special eye on how to build a Christian worldview.
